FOUNDER & COACH
Meet Vangel
Aspen Snowmass Chess Club was founded by Vangel Yurukov in July 2020.
Growing up in Bulgaria, chess became part of Vangel’s childhood and developed into a lifelong passion. Years later, after making Aspen and Snowmass his home, he created the club as a way to bring people together through a shared love of the game.
Today, Vangel provides private coaching, youth instruction, small-group lessons and community chess experiences throughout Aspen, Snowmass and the Roaring Fork Valley.
His teaching philosophy goes beyond winning games. Students learn to slow down, calculate, examine their options, make independent decisions, recover from mistakes and compete with confidence and sportsmanship.
